More than 63 million U.S. travelers head abroad each year for business and pleasure.

Unfortunately, a great many of these travelers experience some sort of health problem while away from home. The best way to keep travel-related illness from ruining your trip is to prepare with a visit to a travel medicine specialist. The caring and expert staff at the Mercy Travel Clinic can help ensure you’re ready for whatever health challenges your trip may bring.

Located at Mercy Medical at Dearborn Station (47 W. Polk St.), the Mercy Travel Clinic provides comprehensive pre- and post-travel health services for adults traveling outside the United States. Board-certified infectious disease specialists provide immunizations, preventive medications, and up-to-date health and medical information for your particular travel destination.

So whether your trip is for business, pleasure, or to visit family and friends in your country of origin, it’s a good idea to see the travel medicine specialists at the Mercy Travel Clinic before you pack your bags.

Before Your Trip
Travelers are encouraged to schedule a preliminary appointment at least four weeks prior to departure. Some vaccines take a while to be effective, and some must be administered over a period of time. Making your appointment well ahead of your trip can ensure you have time for whatever vaccines you may require.

To expedite your visit and ensure you receive the proper care, we ask you bring the following items to your appointment: Childhood vaccination/immunization records, if available A travel itinerary with departure dates and all destinations A list of any medications the patient is currently taking Traveler’s Health Yellow Book (available online at www.cdc.gov)

To help you prepare for your appointment, our Travel Clinic Screening Questionnaire is available on-line. This easy-to-understand questionnaire may be printed, completed, and brought to the initial appointment.

At the Clinic
Our board-certified infectious disease physicians have advanced training and unique expertise in travel medicine. They’re available to provide immunizations and vaccinations, preventive medications and treatment, and post-travel follow-up care. Mercy is also a state-certified Yellow Fever Vaccination Center, meaning we are able to administer the yellow fever immunization and provide a World Health Organization (WHO) Immunization Certificate. This important travel document is only available from state-certified centers. In addition, our expert staff provides travel preparation and counseling customized to your destination. This includes:
Up-to-date health and medical information for the travel destination
Tips to avoid common travel illnesses Health clinic information for the country of destination Current CDC and WHO guidance on health and safety risks specific to your destination

Payment & Fees
The Travel Clinic is a fee-for-service. Because most insurance plans do not cover costs associated with travel, we require payment at time of service. Itemized receipts for submission to insurance can be provided. Cash, check, and major credit cards are accepted as forms of payment. Fees apply to all consultations, return visits, medications and immunizations. (Additional fees may be charged for services such as blood draws to evaluate immunity or immunization history). View our immunization and consultation rates to learn more about our fees. Couple and group evaluation rates are available with some restrictions (call the clinic for more information).
