Mercy Hospital Announces Winner of FREE LAP-BAND ® Surgery
Damon Smith to receive FREE LAP BAND, one year gym membership

Chicago, IL:  Mercy Hospital is pleased to announce that Damon Smith of Chicago is the winner of our Take Control with Mercy FREE LAP-BAND® contest. Smith was one of five finalists selected from over 60 entries. Individuals were asked to submit an essay and photo (optional) about why they would benefit from LAP BAND.

"I WANT TO LIVE!   I am thankful to be the recipient of the LAP-BAND® procedure from Mercy Hospital,” said Damon Smith. “This is the beginning of a new life for me and I cannot wait to get started.  I am looking forward to the progressive weight loss and evolving my life style to adjust to the new life that awaits.  Life is meant to be LIVED and I intend to live it to the fullest.”

“Mr. Smith’s entry showed his desire to make a change, while at the same time understanding that it will take a lot of hard work, said Dr. Rami Lutfi, Medical Director of Mercy’s LAP-BAND ® Program, work that he has already began. “Damon realizes that LAP-BAND® is not just a quick fix; he understands that this is a lifestyle change, in addition to changing his diet, he also realizes he will need to participate in a regular exercise regimen, which is why I believe he will be successful.”

In addition to the free LAP-BAND®, Smith will also receive a one year gym membership to Planet Fitness and follow-up care for a year following surgery.  The runner-up will receive one year of nutritional counseling with Mercy’s nutritionist.
