Are You Ready for Cold & Flu Season? Winter is arriving and with it comes not only cold weather, but cold and flu season as well. Protect yourself and stay healthy this winter by following these helpful tips provided by Mercy Hospital's Immediate Care expert, Dr. Ashish Patel.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze and before eating. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or sleeve when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Keep your hands off. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Get vaccinated for the flu as indicated by current CDC guidelines. Flu shots are available at all Mercy Immediate Care sites.
- Get plenty of rest, drink plenty of water, find time to exercise, and eat a well balanced diet. Surprised? These basic tenets for avoiding chronic illness also apply to staying well through cold and flu season.
