All parents want the best for their children. Mercy Hospital provides families with outstanding pediatric care from the moment children enter the world up to adulthood. Our Pediatrics Unit provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for infants, children and adolescents in a familiar and comforting environment. With 24-hour access to pediatricians and a commitment to compassionate, family-centered care, little patients find big reasons to smile at Mercy.
Our dedicated and highly skilled pediatrics team includes board-certified pediatricians and neonatologists, as well as nurses, social workers and physical therapists.
In addition to providing primary care, the Pediatrics Unit offers 24-hour access to a wide range of specialists. Plus, because of the intimate size and setting of our Pediatrics Unit, patients are seen by attending physicians and parents are able to speak directly to the treating physician. On-site pediatric specialties include:
• infectious diseases
• pulmonary medicine
Our Pediatrics Unit features a colorful, child-friendly environment designed to make patients and family members as comfortable as possible. Our Pediatrics Unit delivers family-centered care, which means the needs of the entire family are taken into consideration. The Pediatrics Unit has a large playroom with plenty of toys, and private rooms with TVs and beds for Mom or Dad to spend the night.
Parents can rest assured that even the littlest patients are in good hands at Mercy’s Emergency Center. A 2004 restructure of the Emergency Center created a separate space just for children, the Higginbottom Urgent Care for Kids Unit.
The unit is outfitted with pediatric-sized equipment, while the seven pediatric treatment suites feature a children’s theme, wall murals and children’s educational videos. Plus, all pediatric patients are assessed for possible fast-track care, which helps to expedite care and minimize children’s and parent’s anxiety levels.
As a leader in asthma care, Mercy is helping area children manage this chronic and serious disease. At Mercy, asthmatic children learn the latest disease management techniques through our Better Breathers Bunch. This free class helps participants control their asthma by teaching them about common triggers, asthma proofing the home, peak-flow usage and recording, nutrition and exercise, and much more. Classes meet at 11 a.m. one Saturday each month at Mercy Hospital. For more information, please call 312.567.2600.
