Mercy Teams With MedAvail: Leading the Way with a Revolutionary Prescription Kiosk
Chicago, IL: Mercy Hospital proudly announces the implementation of the MedAvail MedCenter, an outpatient prescription dispensing kiosk that is now available in Mercy’s Emergency Department. The medication dispensing kiosk is the first of its kind in the United States and it puts Mercy at the forefront of utilizing innovative technology to provide increasing access to on the spot expanded and high quality services to our patients.
“We’re pleased to be able to offer this exciting, new option to our patients and enhancing the patient experience. This first of its kind, ‘ATM’ style prescription kiosk will make it easier and more convenient for our patients to receive those commonly prescribed discharge medications prior to leaving the hospital,” said Carol Schneider, president and chief executive officer of Mercy Hospital. “We are also able to offer this service to our own hospital staff increasing access to both staff and the community; it’s about helping our community live well.”
The new prescription kiosk provides patients the ability to fill their prescription through a live, two way audio/visual conversation with a pharmacist 24 hours a day/7days a week. A trained healthcare professional will be on call to assist patients and answer any questions as well as verify information real time through a secure, controlled door. Patients will also receive medication counseling from the telepharmacist to use medications most effectively.
“MedAvail is excited to partner with Mercy in the deployment of this groundbreaking telehealth solution and looks forward to providing the patients with accessible convenient access to their medications,” said Ed Kilroy, chief executive officer, MedAvail Technologies Inc. “We also believe that as more healthcare systems move to ‘at risk providers’ that this type of solution will not only improve patient outcomes, but also provide a positive business impact to the healthcare system itself,” added Kilroy.
All prescription insurance carriers are accepted, including Medicaid and Medicare, just like any Mercy Community Pharmacy and the kiosk conveniently accepts all debit and/or credit cards.
